A Visitor Guide to Ardmore, Oklahoma in Carter County
Ardmore, Oklahoma
On the Sunny Side of the Arbuckle

Ardmore, Indian Territory began in the summer of 1887 in Pickens County,
Chickasaw Nation. The city later became the county seat for the newly created Carter
County in 1907.
Ardmore is located 90 miles equidistant from Oklahoma City and Dallas/Fort
Worth, Texas at the junction of Interstate 35 and U.S. Route 70, and the city is
generally considered the hub of Arbuckle Country. It also has been named An
All-American City twice.
Ardmore's neighborhood parks are busy with activity throughout the entire year.
The parks are easily accessible from any location in the community. A Veteran's
Memorial Monument is located near by.
Take the walking tours of the old historic areas and see some great old
buildings including the Carter County Courthouse and the beautiful old church
shown below.

Economically, Ardmore is positioned next to one of the largest oil fields
ever produced in Oklahoma, the Healdton Oil Field. The city is still a leader in
oil production.
Ardmore is next to the Arbuckle Mountains, an important landform in the south
central United States, and it is also near both Lake Murray and Lake Texoma on the Texas-Oklahoma border. Visitors come into the area each month
looking for adventure and fun! They find it and come back often.
